Silver carp is a large gregarious fish. East Asian rivers are its natural habitat, whence it has been spread to European Russia and Middle Asia. Silver carp is a pelagic fish feeding solely on plants. This fish has an oblong body. The back is grayish green. The belly and the flanks are silvery. Silver carp’s fin coloration coincides with the color of its back. Its mouth is turned upward, its silvery eyes are located rather low. Its fused gill membranes form a fold. A keel extends along the whole body from the throat up to the anus. Adult specimens may grow up to 1 m long and reach a weight of about 15 kg.
